Region progression
Coastal Jungle is the start; finish its early main quests to open Foothills; beat the boss at the end of the Foothills questline to reach Cursed Swamps. Key discoveries gate crafting progress, so grab them as soon as you enter a region — Corn in the Foothills is the famous one, since it unlocks the Millstone and with it the whole gunpowder chain.

Guides disagree slightly on totals (74 vs 75) and on a few tier placements (Wolf Head is filed under Other or Major depending on the source) — the game is in Early Access and the Discoveries screen changes with patches.
